If you are paying for traffic and it arrives and leaves, the useful question is not “what should the headline say” — it is why website visitors do not convert, answered with evidence. Two programs in our partner directory handle the two halves of that: seeing the problem, and catching the visitor before they go.
Disclosure: the tool links below are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Nobody paid for a place on this page or for a kinder write-up.
See it: Crazy Egg
Snapshots of a page combine click maps, scroll maps and confetti reports with session recordings, so you can watch real visits end to end. When you find the problem, the built-in A/B test with a visual editor lets you fix it in the same tool instead of filing a ticket.
- What it usually reveals: people never reach the button; they click something that is not a link; the mobile layout hides the price.
- Good fit: you buy traffic and conversion is the constraint.
- Skip it if: you get very few visitors a month — there will not be enough data to read.
Catch them: Tidio
A lightweight chat widget with the Lyro AI agent answering routine questions and handing the rest to a person, plus one inbox for chat, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. Chat only works if someone answers; the AI layer is what makes it survivable for a small team.
- Good fit: a store or service site where questions arrive faster than you answer them.
- Skip it if: nobody can pick up the handoffs. Unanswered chat is worse than no chat.
A sane order to work in
- Watch ten recordings before you change anything. The first fix is usually obvious and boring.
- Fix the single biggest drop-off, then test it. One change at a time or you learn nothing.
- Add chat once the page is clear, not as a patch over a confusing one.
- Track which channel the resulting leads came from — call and lead tracking closes that loop.
Worth saying plainly: conversion tools improve the percentage of people who buy. They do not create demand, and they cannot rescue a product whose landed cost, fees and ad spend leave nothing behind — that math is in The Amazon Seller’s Pocket Guide.
Owning a storefront where you can actually run these tests is a large part of why we argue for diversifying in Why Not to Sell on Amazon. Both programs are listed with full notes in the partner directory.
How much traffic you need before testing means anything
A conversion test needs enough conversions, not enough visitors. As a rough floor, look for a few hundred conversions per variant before you trust a result; below that, you are reading noise and will ‘learn’ things that reverse next month. Sites with light traffic get more from watching ten session recordings than from running a test they cannot power.
The four things recordings usually expose
- The price or shipping cost appears later than the visitor expects, and they leave at that moment.
- Mobile layout pushes the buy button below three screens of copy.
- People click images, headings and badges that are not links — a sign of what they wanted to do.
- A form field fails silently, so a share of buyers never reach the confirmation page at all.
None of those are creative problems, and no amount of new ad copy fixes them.
Questions people ask
Heatmaps or session recordings first?
Heatmaps to find the page and the fold that fails; recordings to understand why. They answer different questions and are usually bought together.
Does live chat hurt conversion?
Only when nobody answers it. An AI agent handling routine questions with a clean handoff to a person is what makes chat workable for a small team.
Will this help my Amazon listings?
Not directly — you cannot install a script on Amazon. It helps everywhere you own the page, which is one more argument for having somewhere you own.
